Rioja - no severe drought stress

In response to the article by Victor de la Serna on the 2005 vintage in Spain it would be important to mention that Rioja, and particular the Rioja Alta area, has had a plenty of water, with three large snowfalls in the winter and a wet spring.
Maria Jose Lopez de Heredia (Viña Tondonia) says, 'Of course we could do with 10 to 15 litres of rainwater now, followed by sunshine till harvest but the dry weather over the last two months does ensure that we do not have problems with botritys, mildew or oidium (fungus that develops with humidity).
