Vintage variation in Chile

Carol Horton, Rome: I keep drinking Carmenère and Merlot 2002s from Chile these days and  wonder if this was a really good year for these wines, or were there other years that were really much better?! me: I'm surprised, and in a way delighted, that you can find such exotic wines easily in Rome. But I wouldn't say that there was any particular magic about 2002 - fact the 2002 vintage was compromised by rain at harvest in the southern part of Chile's wine country (southern part of Rapel plus Curico and Maule).
