What of 2004 in the southern Rhône?

Michael Ferrier, Essex:   Any thoughts on the 2004 Southern Rhônes as these are now starting to be offered? Thanks. me: Of course I have only so far tasted some of the simpler wines, and only the reds, I’m afraid, but they seem very frank, direct, relatively juicy and supple. A few seemed to lack real stuffing but it’s too early to tell whether this is related to the vintage or individual producers. But I think the thing to remember is that it’s a buyer’s market at the moment. However breathless the prose, most French wine producers (and British wine merchants) need you more than you need them.
