Are Négrette and Carmenère related?

Ned Goodwin, Tokyo: I have just put a Négrette-based wine from the Côtes du Frontonnais on a wine list here in Tokyo, as an esoteric quaffer. The nose distinguishes this particular wine from the slew of Bordelais-type acolytes from both the Frontonnais and nearby Marmandais, Gaillac et al. Robert Plageolles' wines are the exceptions. In any event, I went to a Chilean tasting the other day and, nosing a straight Carmenère, it dawned on me that the lifted and almost floral nose was akin to that of the Négrette.
