Is Yquem 2001 worth it?
James Stark, Sheffield: I have had a number of offers in my inbox for Yquem 2001 . I suppose we knew it was going to be expensive . My experience of 2001 sauternes has been limited but I have been impressed how wines such as the Wine Society's Exhibition Sauternes from Ch Cantegril seemed to punch well above their weight. £2,500 a case is too much for me to even contemplate but I wonder have you tasted it and is it worth 20 points? me: I was certainly very impressed by the vintage for sweet white bordeaux in general but I haven't tasted that vintage of Yquem which fell through the cracks between the Lur Saluces habit of...
