David Graves, Saintsbury, Carneros: Fine dry weather continues, allowing the Chardonnay harvest in Carneros to reach its final stages. Now, the winemaker can choose when to bring in the fruitĀ  if she or he can find a picking crew. Dance cards for crews remain pretty full. In the Napa Valley a bigger Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon crop than anyone expected awaits. Know of any spare tanks? On the comments about sensitivity to attributes of wines , I am reminded of a revelation about the audio equipment market. Like wine, there is a basic consumer level, and after that, prices go all the way up to "wow, can they really want that much...
