Is wine made in New England?
Carol Horton, Rome: Does anybody know about wine from New England (USA)? Has anybody ever tasted, or seen anything written about, wine from Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont? To my knowledge, I have never heard mention of any wines from here! me: Wine is made from recently picked grapes in virtually every state in the US, although the proportion of states in which commercial viticulture takes place is much lower (grapes and juice are shipped between states much more easily than wine is). You could take a look at the entry on United States in the Oxford Companion on this site for a bit more detail but perhaps an American...
