When is Canadian wine Canadian?

Martin McConnell, Ontario: John Shearer is spot on when describing the ambiguities of "Ontario wine" . In the mid-1990s the Ontario government allowed the Ontario wine industry to become self-regulating. Although the Wine Council of Ontario has a wide range of members, the power rests with the large players, particularly Vincor, although other companies share its interests. I talk with many Ontario consumers, some of whom are fairly knowledgeable about wine (and in some cases, studying it).  Some of them are even passionate about Ontario's wine, but even they are bamboozled by the current regulations. Other consumers are imagining...
