Do tasters instinctively know what is good?

 Gary Gillmann, Toronto: Regarding the palates of men and women and the relative sensitivity of palate of each: I think most people, at least those who share the same general culture, have (speaking broadly) similar likes and dislikes and the same ability to detect differences and explain why.  Recently at a whisky tasting in Toronto where six malt whiskies were tasted, seven out of eight tasters stated they liked a 30 year old Gordon & McPhail Highland Park the best, a Glenmorangie Port Finish came second, and Dalmore 12 year old third.  The group were in close agreement too on the merits of the other three:...
