What's a reasonable mark-up on wine in a restaurant?
Gawain Young, UK: The wine list at The Harrow does indeed look impressive. However, I can't help but notice the mark up on the wines compared to retail prices. I appreciate restaurants have to choose and store these wines at a cost but I do object to the amount of the mark-up found in many restaurants. Speaking more generally there has been many a time I have asked for an ice bucket for a red wine which has been served far too warm and of course won't have been decanted.
