The wonders of modern white Málaga

James Williams, Williams McKenna Wines, Shrewsbury: The conclusion to a enjoyable tasting of wines from Spain and Portugal I recently attended was a delightful surprise.  On presentation of the MR Mountain Wine Muscat 2004 Málaga, I have to admit I expected an over- ripe almost burnt, flabby and cloying wine.  However what I found was a wine which was light, fragrant and almost floral on the nose with a background of ripe oranges. These observations were confirmed on the palate accompanied by a luscious sweetness and a refreshing mouthfeel maybe helped by surprisingly low (13 per cent) alcohol.
