The 2005 vintage in Italy and Beaujolais Nouveau

Carol Horton, Rome: I have just heard that the 2005 vintage in Italy is very good, and that it beats France! Look out for Tuscany, they said! me: Well I was in Piemonte last weekend (giving a lecture at the new Slow Food University at Pollenzo) and I can tell you that 2005 was not so great there. Early October rain puncutated the harvest. Needless to say, everyone I spoke to claimed to have somehow managed to pick their Nebbiolo before the rain, but this must be exceptional. Could be good for Dolcetto and Nebbiolo though. (Why oh why are so many producers now heavily masking Dolcetto in oak too? Barbera's one thing...) As for...
