Looking for sensational Sancerre
24 Nov 2005 by JR
John Goodwin, London: I served Cotat's La Grande Côte 2002 at dinner for some friends the other day and it was a huge hit with one of the girls in particular, who admitted she knew nothing about Sancerre (her bad luck). I've been asked to recommend what she should look for and where. Laytons have a reasonable selection but very little, if any, 2002 and I believe 2003 and 2004 are not as good. Any ideas? And what is the difference between the two(?) Cotats? Of course, older vintages would also be of interest as I've found it matures beautifully; the 1988 in magnum is superb at present. The 2002 was drunk with a vegetable terrine...
