Lafite 1921 - did it be or not be?

Jim Dove, MO: I ran across something curious while reading Edmund Penning-Rowsell's The Wines of Bordeaux this weekend.  He claims that the 1921 vintage of Ch Lafite went to vinegar in one day while fermenting and was sold off entirely. This conflicts with two rather lukewarm notes on the wine from Broadbent, dated 1988 and 1990, in Vintage Wine .  It seems curious that he never ran across the '21 vintage of Lafite until the late-'80s, and even more curious that Penning-Rowsell claims it was never made but rather "sold off as Pauillac or to Calvet as vin rouge for 1600 ff a tonneau."  Have you ever had this wine?  And, if...
