Pacific and varietal semantics

Pacific and varietal semantics Barbara: Did JR write the piece in the FT 1-2 May? If so, she's contradicted her own good guidance from previous pieces by using "varietal" as a noun. Also, it is too American for a British paper to use "Pacific Northwest" to refer to America's Northwest, which is part of the NorthEAST Pacific. Having just returned from tasting some lovely wines in the real Pacific Northwest (Korea), I find it surprising to read this in a non-USA paper....
