Wines that smell weird

Hi Jancis,
Two questions about off smells in wine.
1) I recently had a 2000 CDP (Domaine de Marcoux). 1st bottle, good wine. 2nd bottle had a distinct oyster shell, by the pier at low tide sea/dead fish smell. I thought at first TCA, but was assured by a fellow drinker no. Any idea if this was a fault?
2) J J Prum Riesling. I thought I smelled pesticide. Now I know that riesling can frequently have a petroleumish nose, but this was...
