Does France need Appellations of Excellence?

Thank you to everyone for their help with BYOs and Julia for her help with AOC and varietal labelling . It is great to have that support in time of need. Now I can book not only the next tasting but a few after it as well! As for the AOC d'Excellence , as a decision it sounds rather disappointing. Rather than protecting the AOC "brand" it sounds rather more like "hey, a lot of this stuff isn't that good so ignore AOC as a guide to quality/regionality and try the new shinier model".... Hmm, rather like DOC and DOCG now that I think of it. I can't see...
