Good American wine merchants for American wine

I am planning a trip to the US - Chicago, San Francisco and New York - and would like to get to some shops handling a good range of the best wines made in US. Any suggestions?

Over to American purple pagers, please. I would dearly love some recommendations, not least so that I can add them to my pathetically meagre list of US wine merchants in the directory .
