Andrew McKinna, Bermuda: Perhaps because of our involvement in Deerfield Ranch Winery in Sonoma, I tend to be more familiar with the middle-range and the higher end wines in California - and the people that drink them - and am acutely aware that the image of Californian wines in the UK typically resembles that GI reputation: 'over here, overpriced and over-sexed...' or words to that effect. (And of course many are - which does not help to change perceptions.) That or else they are seen as an alternative to Australia at the bottom of the market. Too expensive or too cheap - even though glorious wines such as Ridge Monte...
