The perfect champagne bottle size

I recently had a customer who came to me and told me that she was advised by a member of staff from one of our other stores that champagne tastes better when it comes from larger bottles as the size of the bottle allows it to age better. I have sold wine for 16 years and have never heard of such a thing. I am perfectly willing to accept that I am in the dark. Could you please shed some light?
