Is it worth exporting wine from the UK to the US?

I would like to hear from others who have purchased or stored wine in the UK and subsequently had it shipped to the US. I am considering this option as many times the price of older vintage premium French wines is much less than the retail price available in the States, and I am concerned with proper storage of fine wine from many US retailers. Has anyone found it beneficial to ship from the UK?
