Last weekend, we had the chance to taste quite a number of 2005 German (and one Austrian) wines, and a few wines from previous vintages. Most of the wines were below Spätlese level, and due to the preference here in the south for trocken, most were dry.
The manager of the shop (one of the largest in the area) said that he felt that the wines in the higher categories were not really showing that well, and so decided not to offer many of them.
