Nic Hailey, London: Interesting to compare this quote from Berry's Simon Staples on decanter.com: 'That's unlikely to happen, even in an off-vintage like 2004,' Staples said. with the same company's website on this supposed "off-vintage": 'The consensus is that 2004 is definitely a classic vintage and in the Médoc the wines are comparable with 1988 or 1996 in style.' I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but the way merchants seem to come clean about vintages once they've sold lots en primeur (c f 2003) is not encouraging me to sell my granny for the 2005s!
