In praise of Albariño

We spent two weeks in Galicia, returning mid-June, and have been hunting down here the really newest Spanish classic ‘wine-in-waiting’ which is from the Albariño grape. In my humble opinion it beats most whites into a cocked hat with its Sauvignon Blanc zip, its Chardonnay softness and its Viognier depth - absolutely fantastic. The Atlantic gives the r í as (the rocky river inlets to the sea all along the coast down to Portugal) their ruggedness and the vines their swept edginess but the wine is perfect with its wonderfully fresh fish and is superb on its own....
