Russian River Valley as seen by another Dutton

For those who, after Jancis' description of the Russian River Valley , are motivated to go there, a couple of points:
a) there are some lovely vacation rentals on the river itself
b) if you go west, you end up at the Pacific Ocean, and you will be surprised (especially if you come from Europe) how isolated and empty this stretch of coast is, especially to the north. The fog plays a big role. Forget anything you heard about "sunny" California. The best time to go is in the fall, Sept-Oct, when the fog is at its "weakest", and the winter storms have not...
