Travelling in Priorat(o)

My partner and I will be travelling to Barcelona the second week of September. During our trip we d like to rent a car and drive to Priorat but have no idea whether the area is set up for wine tourists. On previous wine excursions, we've experienced varying stages of wine tourism evolution. (We've travelled to Stellenbosch and Paarl in South Africa, the Wachau and Burgenland in Austria, southern and northern Rhône and quite a few locations in Burgundy in France - with some excellent suggestions for places...
