Should one buy the 1997 bordeaux now?

Ronny de Baere, Belgium: It is still good value to buy some Bordeaux of 1997? Or is better to spend the money, even if the 1997 is cheap, on another vintage?   me:   It depends whether you want to buy to drink now or want a wine that is going to improve. I don’t believe the 1997s will get any better than they are now, with the possible exception of the first growths, so they are excellent value for current drinking but are not worth buying for future drinking. Better value for cellaring and drinking in the next decade would be the best 2001s, 2002s and, for even longer-term drinking,...
