American v Loire Chenin Blanc

Greg, USA: "During these four days, the Loire became the world capital of Chenin Blanc" [extract from The best Chenins in the World? ]. I've always wondered; is it possible that we in the US are growing an inferior clone of Chenin Blanc? Our stuff just seems to have no relation to the good French examples, even allowing for terroir and stylistic impulses. I wonder if anyone has done any research on this......
