The manager of my local store was very depressed when he told me of the news "in complete confidence" earlier today [17 sep]. Having just had a little success again in the International Wine Challenge [rather to everyone's surprise, Oddbins were voted high street retailer of the year at the awards announed earlier this month] after a spell away from the limelight it seems a major blow to the chain. Tony Allen was a very good buyer and responsible for the excellent range of wines from South Africa...
