Martin Lam, South London: Reading the recent article in the Wine Spectator on Wine & Health, which mostly dwelt on the benefits of moderate wine consumption, whilst also saying that some research showed equally good results for other alcohols such as beer or spirits, the question came into my mind: does any of the beneficial effect attributed to wine depend on alcohol at all, or could we do as well by eating grapes that are high in polyphenols for example? me: I am certainly not equipped to answer this question fully so I asked our 2003 Geoffrey Roberts Award winner Professor Roger Corder,...
