Making money out of Sauternes, and alcohol abuse

Edward Fitzgerald, Oxford: I was privileged to be at a tasting of Yquem vintages back to the late 1970's last night. One point raised during the tasting was that Yquem pretty much breaks even on the financial side of things. I have no knowledge of the Sauternes side of the Bordeaux wine trade, but find this pretty hard to believe. Is Sauternes really not that profitable, even for such a great as Yquem? What do you think of the new management intentions and recent en primeur offer? If the above is true,...
