Does fine wine in upright bottles suffer?

David Morgan, Esher, UK: I'm worried about some good bottles that I'd had professionally stored (some for eight years), and which were then, in error, left standing upright for some 10 weeks before delivery to me. The wines were still, I'm told, in a temperature-controlled storage area during this period. I doubt that this relatively short time upright will have ruined any of the wines, but I can't help wondering about some degree of cork-loosening and consequent 'de-tuning' of quality through excess intake of air.
