With 1995 the 1996 vintage was greatly heralded and price hyped. As time has gone on 1995 has remained very good, whereas 1996 has become a truly excellent classic Bordeaux vintage, especially on the left bank. 1996 is on a par with the brilliant 1990 vintage, it is dependent on almost perfect balance that will keep it in good stead for years to come. Very tannic when young the wines have developed quickly and beautifully. As we see a possible changing of style for Bordeaux this is a reminder of just what future generations might be missing. Always a joy to check on them and we will be looking at:
Cos D’Estournel, Pontet Canet, Pichon Baron, Grand Puy Lacoste, Pichon Lalande, Leoville Barton, Leoville-Las Cases, Leoville Poyferre, Ducru Beaucaillou & Palmer
