We are delighted to announce that Paul Ham from Alpha Domus is joining us for a growers tasting on Wednesday 20th May. The Ham family emigrated from Holland in the early 1960’s and established Awapuni Nurseries. In the 1980’s, the family decided to do something to satisfy their passion for horticulture and their love for fine wine: Alpha Domus was created in 1989. The name Alpha Domus comes from the first names of the five founding members of the family: parents Anthonius and Leonarda and sons Paulus, Henrikus and Anthonius. Domus is latin for house. Since their first wines were released to the market in 1996, the Ham family has been constantly producing stunning exclusively estate-grown wines. Their reds ape the old-world whilst using firmly new-world savvy: Bordeaux–esque Merlot/Cabernet blends and a lithe Rhone-like Syrah. Likewise their whites stylistically could be from either side of the divide – a bright Sauvignon, (Kiwi, yes, but not from Marlborough, we must stress!) a plump Viognier that could pass for a Condrieu, and a truly noble Chardonnay that would give a lot of Burgundies a serious run for their money! Not forgetting their supremely elegant dessert wines made from late harvested Semillon. Book your tickets now to be part of this fabulous tasting and learn a little more about these wonderful New Zealand wines! –
