,
A rare opportunity to try 10 vintages of the extraordinary Solaia. Antinori is the most famous name in Italian wine making, with Piero Antinori’s contribution revolutionising Italian wine. Here we will look at Antinori’s stunningly rich Solaia which, on release in 1978, was initially accused of disparaging the cherished heritage of Italian viticulture, however, the trend towards creating Bordeaux-inspired blends soon became widespread across Tuscany. The Solaia vineyard is considerably smaller than the flagship wine, Tignanello. The blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 20% Sangiovese. Solaia is made in only the best vintages and continues to impress wine lovers and critics alike. In 2000, the 1997 Solaia was named Wine Spectator’s ‘Wine of the Year’.
We will taste 1982, 1985, 1990, 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2005
