Barolo 1964: The Horizontal
Thursday 6 December 2012
,
1964 was a watershed vintage for producers of Barolo. Not only was it a wonderful year that yielded some of the 20th century’s finest Piedmontese wines, but it was one of the first vintages that was taken seriously by international collectors – most Italian wines had, until the early 60s, rarely been seen on the lists of London’s wine merchants. Having raided an incredible cellar of old Italian wines by Lake Como, we are excited to present a horizontal tasting of the ’64 vintage, including a number of top producers:
Barolo ‘Riserva Speciale’; Bosca
Barolo ‘Monteforte Perno’; Aldo Conterno
Barolo; Giacomo Conterno
Barolo; Giuseppe Contratto
Barolo; Marchesi di Barolo
Barolo ‘Riserva Speciale’; Nicolello
Barolo; Pio Cesare
Barolo ‘Riserva’; Enrico Serafino
Barolo; Voerzio
Barolo ‘Abbazia Annunziata’; Renato Ratti
Tickets are extremely limited for this tasting as we have only one bottle of each wine, but if you are lucky enough to join us then you will get a comprehensive taste of a truly legendary vintage. However, we should say that we have no idea how many of these wines will be in good drinking condition. They are all from a private cellar, most of the wines have good levels and some of them are excellent. But ... we cannot guarantee anything. So, if you decide to join us at this tasting, please bear with us.
