Champagne and Music

On November 13th 2014, BYWine, Birmingham's popular wine club, will be hosting a Champagne evening in aid of Cure Leukaemia. The evening will feature generous tastings of prestige Champagnes from the likes of Taittinger, Laurent-Perrier and Moët & Chandon. The hosts will be the two BYWine founders, Laura Clay, UK Champagne Ambassador 2010, and Richard Bampfield, one of only 320 Masters of Wine in the world, who are delighted to be introducing Professor Barry Smith whose unique research on how music effects how we taste will be the focus of the evening.
Professor Smith, who has worked with the likes of Heston Blumenthal and is in demand throughout the world to present his findings, will select particular pieces of music to accompany each Champagne which should enhance the flavours and our overall experience of the taste. This is one of the first such public tastings to take place in the UK.
The event will, of course, also sparkle with wit and joie de vivre, with Laura and Richard aiming to inform and entertain in equal measure. There will also be an auction of rare bottles, as well as a magnum of Dom Pérignon 2004, that have been offered by their friends in the wine business.
There will be delicious canapés, too, to soak up the bubbles.
