Domaine Direct Chablis Focus Tasting

Tuesday 19 May 2015

,

Domaine Direct Focus Tastings offer informal, convivial surroundings in which to enjoy some of Burgundy's hard-to-get wines. The tastings are led by Sara Muirhead MW who has consulted for Domaine Direct for almost a decade.

Chablis is one of France’s best-known wines but, located in semi-isolation some 60 miles north of the Côte de Nuits, its contribution to Burgundy’s dominant reputation as the world’s finest producer of white wine is sometimes underestimated. Chablis is unique. Chardonnay is grown everywhere in the world, but nowhere, including the Côte d’Or, produces anything quite like top quality Chablis. Here producers regularly face difficult, notably cooler, weather conditions. The resulting wines are lean and austere yet complex, with a firm acid backbone and a high acid- to-fruit ratio. We feel it is the perfect region to provide the first focus in our new series of tastings and it is a firm favourite at Domaine Direct!

Wines at the tasting will include village, premier cru and grand cru Chablis, featuring amongst others Jean Paul et Benoît Droin, Bernard Defaix, Laurent Tribut, Billaud-Simon and Vincent Dauvissat – we’ll be finishing the tasting with Vincent’s Chablis grand cru Preuses 2000.

Full line-up of wines being shown at the tasting available on request. Please email Rebecca Perry – rebecca@domainedirect.co.uk
