Handford Wine Moulin Touchais Masterclass With Richard Kelley MW

Tuesday 21 January 2014

,

On a quiet street within the town of Doue- La- Fontaine, behind a dilapidated bourgeois house lies Vignobles Touchais, one of the finest Coteaux de Layon producers in the Loire.
Beneath the property runs a network of tunnels which are home to a remarkable piece of history. The cellar here contains one of the largest and oldest collections of any winery. With around 2 million bottles, some dating back to the mid-19th century. Moulin Touchais have been producing wines for 8 generations and are proud that little has changed in that time, continuing the principles of low yields, hand harvesting over two tris and a long slow fermentation. The wines usually contain 70 -80 grams of residual sugar and are released after 10-20 years in the bottle.

We will taste 12 vintages: 2003, 2002, 2001, 1997, 1996, 1994, 1986, 1985, 1984,1983, 1975 & 1971
