The Wines of Boekenhoutskloof

Wednesday 25th February 6.30pm sit down tasting with Greg Sherwood MW

£60

The Boekenhoutskloof winery is located in a corner of the stunning Franschhoek valley. Established in 1776 the farm's name means "ravine of the Boekenhout" which is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. Hence the 7 chairs on the label, a chair for each of the current owners. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored by Mark Kent and his business partners. A new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Through progressive winemaking practices, Marc Kent has had a stellar career and has built up an international reputation as one of South Africa’s greatest winemakers. His small batch production ideology and passionate winemaking have created a demand for his wine that is the envy of his contemporaries. According to The Wine Advocate Boekenhoutskloof is the only ‘outstanding’ South African wine estate. The estate has gained cult status because of the exquisitely balanced wines that reflect the varieties used as much as the soil they come from. The reputation of the winery is built as much on the outstanding value of the everyday wines as it is on the quality of the flagship bottles. The top wines from Boekenhoutskloof are made in tiny quantities.

We will taste Journeyman 2005, Semillon 05, 07, 08 Syrah 2005, 2006, 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, 2010, Noble Late Harvest 2009
