You are invited to our next tasting on Tuesday 4th June from 17.00-21.00h at our shop in Clifton Road W9.
Ben and David have been in Burgundy all week and are filling the van up as they go. Burgundy has had a long winter and buckets of rain. So much so that three weeks ago there was flooding in Savigny-Les-Beaune, Nuits-St-Georges and even in Beaune. There has been a string of small crops. 2012 was 50% less for most and in some cases down 80% - ouch! Luckily (so far), our lovely growers have managed to set aside wine for us.
It seems an appropriate moment to make Burgundy one of the themes for our tasting – all three selections are within sight of the hill of Corton.
Our sparkling opener will be Cremant de Bourgogne from the Denis family in Pernand-Vergelesses. http://www.thewineryuk.com/growers/denis-pere-pernand-vergelesses/
We will also be introducing their new Bourgogne Chardonnay, only in its second vintage.
Savigny-Les-Beaune was the epicentre of recent flooding and Guillemot, our favourite grower in the village, are back to normal after some intense work in the vineyards. The wines are brilliant and we will be showing their wonderful Bourgogne Pinot Noir. http://www.thewineryuk.com/growers/pierre-guillemot-savigny-les-beaune/
Our obligatory dry Rieslings will be Andreas Schmitges’ Grauschiefer from steep grey slate vineyards on the Mosel. http://www.thewineryuk.com/growers/andreas-schmitges-erden/
Also another mineral-infused bottling from the Nahe by the von Racknitz family – this time from volcanic soil. http://www.thewineryuk.com/growers/von-racknitz-odernheim/
Our shelves have been stripped of all but the most top-shelf Rioja for months and it’s a pleasure to have Isabel Fernandez’s Longrande back in the shop. Her 2008 Crianza will be in Tuesday’s line-up. http://www.thewineryuk.com/growers/bodegas-abeica-abalosrioja-alta/
Completing the line-up will be Cantina di Casteggio’s Barbera which came and went so quickly last time. http://www.thewineryuk.com/growers/cantina-di-casteggio-oltrepo-pavese/
Our monthly tastings at The Winery are very informal, just come along any time between 17.00h-21.00h.
We do hope you can join us and, as usual, feel free to bring a friend.
There will be more than one event in July as we will be taking part in the 31 Days Of Riesling. Watch this space for dates and details!
