James Handford MW Pommard & Beaune 1er Cru Masterclass

Tuesday 20 October 2015

,

James’ tour of Burgundy heads into the picturesque vineyards surrounding Beaune, the gateway to the Cote d’Or. Beaune hosts twenty eight Premier Crus producing wines known for their smooth silky berry fruitiness. Pommard has a reputation for producing the fullest wines perhaps due to the iron rich soils found in much of the region. The wines tend to be less tannic than Corton but soft well concentrated with heady perfume. Pommard has no Grand Crus although Rugiens is currently been mooted for promotion with the authorities. In this tasting James will look at the most renowned producers and sites.

We will taste 11 wines including

Beaune: Lafarge Greves 2003Joseph Drouhin Clos Mouches Blanc 2010Pommard: Lafarge Pezerolles 2004,three vintages from Comte Armand Clos des Epeneaux,Hubert de Montille Pezorolles 2010 & Rugiens 1995 & 2010
