£30.00

Wednesday 6th May 6.30pm Walkabout Tasting

It’s time for us to have a long over due look at Austrian wine. Over the past few years we have found it a go to region for well made, good value, dry, characterful whites that are a versatile match for so many dishes. Good quality reds are also now in abundance made from Blaufrankisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Pinot Noir. Officially 35 varieties are permitted for use in Austrian quality wine of which almost two-thirds are white-wine varieties. Located in the heart of Europe, Austria’s climate is slightly warmer than Germany’s and generally produces riper wines. Austria has a myriad of producers creating wines with great character on a small scale. Austria now has well regimented wine regulations, DAC is a relatively new initiative designed to emulate France's appellation contrôlée system by emphasising geographical provenance.

We will show 12 wines including Eichinger Gruner Veltliner Lamm, Wachau, Singerriedel Riesling, Jurtschitsch Pinot Noir Reserve 2007 Kamptal, Jurtschitsch Zweigelt Reserve, 2002 Kamptal, Carnuntum 2009, Nouvelle Vague Berenauslese 1991,
