West London Wine School: Bordeaux Vintage 1996 Horizontal
Monday 16 March 2015
,
Join us for another Bordeaux fine wine tasting as we taste a lovely charming and long-lived vintage, 1996. This was the first truly outstanding year for the wines of the Médoc since 1990, with many châteaux making some of the best wines in their history. The best of these châteaux have started to open up in the past five years and can be drunk now with some time in the decanter to breathe. That said, the inherent balance of these wines is such that they can be kept, and will develop further for the next decade.
This is one of the great post-war vintages for Médoc Cabernet-based wines. They are rich, layered, and beautifully balanced wines, packed with ripe, pure fruit and have the structure that will allow the top wines to age well into the next decade and beyond. We'll be tasting a mixture of Grand Cru Classe wines from 2nd the 5th Growth and a Cru Bourgeois ranging from £40 to £140 per bottle.
