West London Wine School: Southern France Big Guns

Wednesday 5 October 2016

,

As Autumn closes in on us, a chill enters the air and the call is for much bigger robust reds to act as winter warmers. The south of France is perfect in supplying this big style but is often only discovered at the £5-£10 price point by the British and rightly so as it is a source of excellent affordable wine. But what if we look at the premium wines from this area at a price range of £15-£30? We can discover an excellent production of fine wine from areas such as Fitou, Corbieres, Minervois, Terrassas du Larzac, La Clape amongst others. From the classic grape varieties such as the spicy Syrah, fruity Grenache, meaty Mourvedre and the common blended varieties such as Carignan the wines are full but soft, packed full of fruit, spice and power.

We will taste through 9 wines (listed below) and discover the key Appellations.
