Winemaker tasting with Jamie Kutch & Raj Parr

Tuesday 12 February 2013

,

California is a hotbed of winemaking activity, with new producers appearing every year, each promising to be the next big thing. Every now and again a genuine star is born, and we are lucky enough to welcome two of them to Roberson to present their wines and talk about their roles in this most vibrant of wine regions.

Sandhi Wines is a collaboration between Raj Parr (one of America’s most lauded sommeliers and consultants), Charles Banks (formerly managing partner at Screaming Eagle) and Sashi Morman (winemaker at Evening Land, Stolpman and Piedrasassi). Since being founded in 2010 the wines have immediately received widespread acclaim – the Wine Advocate said recently “It is quite conceivable that within a few years the Sandhi Chardonnays and Pinots could become reference point, benchmark wines for Santa Barbara, and California, for that matter".

Jamie Kutch has enjoyed similar plaudits since his first vintage in 2005. Wine Advocate, Spectator and Jamie Goode have raved about his wines – Jamie Goode saying “I think they are brilliant, and if I was in the USA I'd do all I could to get on [the mailing list].”
