Wines of Asia Tasting

Wednesday 3 August 2016

In the final week of our Emerging Wine Regions course, we are truly exploring some of the far reaches of where winemaking is possible, let alone probable!

Asia is not a region that you would expect to find wines from, and yet as wines have become more international, and widely consumed here, so have the plantings of vineyards. That's not to say that wine production is new here, there is evidence of winemaking going back thousands of years in China, for example. And the more recent developments in the wine production there mean that China produces a lot wine, we just don't tend to see much of it! Japan is making it's own style of wine from interesting and unqiue varieties, and India and Thailand are exploring the best spots for vines and making wines using more recognisable international varieties.

All in all these are wines that are not that well known, but are unique and diverse and deserve more attention! So over the course of the evening we will try six different wines and discover more about the wines, regions, and stories past and present that are making this one of the most interesting emerging wine regions.
