The dramatic vineyards of the coast around Genoa produce hardly enough wine for the region’s tourists. Cinque Terre and Dolceacqua are the place names most commonly encountered outside the region. Local grape varieties are Ormeasco (the Dolcetto of Piemonte), light red Rossesse making easy reds, soft enough to enjoy with the local fish but capable of age, and crisp white Vermentino and its local variant Pigato.
