Alion 1991-2003 and other Vega Sicilia offerings

Yesterday in Spain invades St James’s I reported on the remarkable fact that both J&B and Berry Bros were singing a Spanish song, Here is my report on the vertical tasting of Alion, one of the more respected Ribera del Duero producers set up by Vega Sicilia’s owners. Anything in italics is information given by a representative of Alion, winemaker Javier Ausás unless where otherwise stated.   The Vega Sicilia team are pretty dismissive of typically modern, sweet styles of wine so you can be sure that these will be pretty traditional: dry rather than sweet without overt alcohol or oak.
