Brunello di Montalcino 2001 Riservas - the tasting notes

Here are notes on more than 50 Brunello di Montalcino Riservas from the decidedly promising 2001 vintage, a follow up to my notes on the regular Brunello di Montalcino 2001s and overview of the vintage . Overall the standard of winemaking was high, with very clean wines, even if they were stylistically, and qualitatively in my view, pretty varied. A number of these wines seemed to have been over-extracted and forced, but the best are great wines by any standard. I tasted these at the Consorzio’s extensive stand at Vinitaly at the beginning of April 2007. Such heavy hitters as Argiano, Banfi, Siro Pacenti and Case Basse...
